A toaster oven works harder and lasts longer when it is kept clean. Crumbs and grease are the two things to stay on top of.
Empty the crumb tray
Most ovens have a slide-out crumb tray at the base. Empty it regularly — a build-up of crumbs is the most common cause of smoke and burnt smells, and a fire risk over time.
Wipe the interior
- Let the oven cool fully, then unplug it before cleaning.
- Wipe the walls and door glass with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent.
- Soak the racks and air-fry basket in warm soapy water; avoid harsh abrasives on non-stick.
Keep the outside and vents clear
- Wipe the stainless or painted housing with a soft damp cloth, then buff dry.
- Do not block the rear or top vents — they need airflow to run safely.
- Leave space around the unit, away from walls and curtains.
A quick routine
Empty the crumb tray weekly, wipe the interior when it looks greasy, and deep-clean the racks monthly. Ten minutes now saves smoky dinners later. Browse our toaster ovens for easy-clean designs.
